March 9, 2020 - March 17, 2020 / USA

The Second Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) Information Sharing Program – first convened in 2018 – will be held March 9-17, 2020.  The program will focus approaches to controlling vector borne diseases such as dengue and Zika.  Mekong health officials, scholars, or public health practitioners involved in vector control or vector-borne disease issues from the public health sector as well as relevant fields such as environmental sciences, entomology, and water management will visit Washington, D.C., Denver, Colorado, and Honolulu, Hawaii, to enhance Mekong countries’ capacity to prevent and respond to the serious health risks posed by mosquitoes, particularly the Aedes mosquitoes that cause dengue and Zika.  The program will culminate with an action planning exercise where participants will lay out plans to put key lessons learned into practice.  This program builds upon the ten-year track record of LMI programs contributing to positive human capacity development in the region, and reflects the shared commitment of the United States and LMI countries to implementation of the WHO International Health Regulations (2005).
